About the Artist


Robert Hopkins is a Native Cherokee.He was born in North Carolina in the U.S. and currently lives in Ontario, Canada. He recieved formal art training at the Cleveland Institute of Art where he recieved a Scholarship and attended for several years.He is a Vet of the U.S. Army where he Served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and was Decorated many times for his service , receiving an Honorable Discharge. Having never been taught his culture and being moved away from the reservation before the age of 1, Robert embraced his culture and started on his path down the Red Road.He has Paticipated in many sacred ceremonies including the Sun Dance at Rosebud reservation in South Dakota where Leonard Crow Dog is the Medicine Man. Currently his work includes Dreamcatchers, Medicine wheels, Mandellas,Drums, Shields, Rattles,Masks,Paintings on leather,slate,plates,rawhide,canvas, paper and skulls.He is constantly searching to create Traditional Native Art as well as Contemporary Art Honoring his native background.His Native Name is QuaQua Wohali Asgaya which is translated to Robert Eagle Man.
